2017 PW Awards: Event of the Year

Winner: Wrestle Kingdom 11

“The magic of New Japan’s January 4th Dome Show has yet to be matched. Personally, it reminds me of being a little kid waiting for WWE PPV’s. Wrestle Kingdom 11 was no different. These shows have become the gold standard for professional wrestling. From KUSHIDA versus Takahashi to Okada versus Omega, I don’t remember ever being so entertained for any four match stretch in the history of professional wrestling. Wrestle Kingdom 12 is sure to be amazing, but this one is going to be hard to top.” – Dave Reno

“Year in and year out, I don’t think we’ll have an event that will top Wrestle Kingdom. The top 4 matches of WK11 can not be topped by any promotion all year-long, and 2017 was no different. Takahashi v. KUSHIDA felt like a show stealer. Then Goto v. Shibata topped it. Then Naito v. Takahashi topped THAT. Then Omega and Okada went out and had one of the greatest wrestling matches I have ever seen. I was on the edge of my seat and jumping up screaming by the end of that match. The matches and the event draw emotion that no other wrestling event can top… not only that… they draw this emotion after I’m basically dead tired in the middle of the morning. No event can top WK11… (except maybe WK12… come on January 4th!! GET HERE ALREADY!!)” – Chris Langevin

“This show reestablished NJPW as the second biggest promotion in the world and set up what has been their best year in over twenty years.” – Frank Anguiano

Runner Up: NXT TakeOver: Chicago

“Pete Dunne versus Tyler Bate, Authors of Pain versus D.I.Y. in a ladder match (that Ciampa heel turn though) and Asuka versus Nikki Cross and Ruby Riot—what else could you possibly ask for.” – DW

Honorable Mentions: WWE UK Championship Tournament, Progress: Super Strong Style 16, NJPW Dominion, Joey Janela’s Spring Break
