All that back and forth between Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega on social media over the past couple of weeks — there was an immediate purpose too it.

Just as Omega had finished cutting a promo in Japanese on how there was no more competition left for him in New Japan, a countdown appeared on the big screen at Edion Arena Osaka. What followed was pretty unforgettable.

Chris Jericho would appear, yes, that Chris Jericho, on NJPWWorld programming during today’s Power Struggle card via a vignette where he’d call out Omega for a match at Wrestle Kingdom 12. Omega, who was in ring having just successfully defended his title against Beretta, was quick to accept the match.

The match is being promoted as ‘Alpha vs. Omega’ and will be Jericho’s first match for NJPW since the late 90’s.

Here is your current card for January 4th’s annual Tokyo Dome show as it stands today after this breaking news:

IWGP Heavyweight Championship Match
Kazuchika Okada (c) vs. Tetsuya Naito

IWGP US Championship Match
Kenny Omega vs. Chris Jericho
