Chris Jericho to appear on RAW 25

Chris Jericho is enjoying the best of both worlds.

The 5-time WWE World Champion was confirmed for next week’s RAW 25 mega show during a commercial that aired after a segment on tonight’s show that saw Braun Strowman tip over a semi truck and lay waste to Michael Cole. Jericho’s RAW debut on the August 9th episode of RAW back in 1999 is still regarded as one of the top moments in the history of the show.

Jericho, who is currently not signed to a WWE contract, recently wrestled Kenny Omega in the first of a double main event at Wrestle Kingdom 12 on January 4th in Tokyo. The match earned a 5 star rating from Dave Meltzer and tons of critical acclaim all over the world. It also saw a massive increase to the subscriber count for New Japan’s streaming service—from 70K to 95K in around 24 hours—mainly due to the ‘Alpha vs. Omega’ build up that was heavily inspired by last year’s Floyd Mayweather Jr. versus Conor McGregor bout.

Jericho would appear on the New Year Dash show the following night (New Japan’s equivalent to the RAW after WrestleMania) to begin an angle with Tetsuya Naito, one of New Japan’s top stars, guaranteeing at least one more match with the promotion which is rumored to take place in Long Beach at Strong Style Evolved on March 25th.

It’ll be interesting to see if Jericho makes any mention of his recent program in New Japan on RAW 25 next week and if his success at Wrestle Kingdom could open up potential co-promotion opportunities between the two biggest wrestling promotions in the world sometime down the line.
