DDT – FREE and LIVE from Korakuen Hall Tonight

Live and for free on DDT Universe, is the build towards DDT Judgement. Last year, Judgement was the largest wrestling show in Japan that was not produced by NJPW. Tonight’s main event will serve as a taste of what’s to come at this year’s Judgement when Konosuke Takeshita and Shuji Ishikawa face off in a tag team contest. Two championships will also be on the line, the DDT Extreme and the KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Championships. Another important note is the addition of both NOAH and BJW aces, Naomichi Marufuji and Daisuke Sekimoto.

The show begins at 7pm PST/10pm EST/3am GMT. Let’s break apart this show a little more.

Konosuke Takeshita & HARASHIMA vs Shuji Ishikawa & Daisuke Sekimoto
– On March 25th, at DDT Judgement, Takeshita will defend the top prize of DDT, the KO-D Openweight Championship, against Ishikawa. By the time the match takes place, Takeshita’s reign will have surpassed a year. He won the title at Judgement 2017 by defeating HARASHIMA. 2017 was a good year for Ishikawa as well. He ventured off to All Japan Pro Wrestling and won their top prize, the Triple Crown Heavyweight Championship. Ishikawa has since lost that title but has the KO-D Openweight in his sights. This is Takeshita’s second reign as champion, his first reign was ended by Ishikawa. Takeshita will be looking to avenge the loss he took at the hands of Ishikawa and tonight’s match in particular is to give us a taste of what’s to come next month.
Also in the match are HARASHIMA and Sekimoto. HARASHIMA is still considered by most to be the ace of DDT. He passed the torch to Takeshita last year but it will likely take a while before people don’t see him as the ace. He’s currently one half of the KO-D Tag Team champions alongside Naomichi Marufuji. Standing across from him both tonight and at Judgement is Sekimoto. This man has helped bring strong style back to the forefront in Japanese wrestling. He’s an extremely thick guy who enjoys dishing out huge lariats and dropping people on top of their heads.

Naomichi Marufuji vs Kazusada Higuchi
– This is the other half of the tag team championship battle we’ll be seeing at Judgement. Higuchi has been challenged to step up into the role of DDT’s bruiser. He’s an ex-Sumo Wrestler, now transitioning into a professional wrestler. Marufuji is known as someone who will cave your chest in with blistering chops. Certainly a tall order for Higuchi to be stepping into the ring with someone has strong as Marufuji. We’ll see whether he has what it takes to step up and prove himself.

DDT Extreme Championship Match
Yuko Miyamoto (c) vs Shunma Katsumata

– An active legend of hardcore wrestling, Miyamoto defends his Extreme title against Katsumata. Each of them were allowed to choose a weapon for the match, Miyamoto choosing a barbed-wire bat and Katsumata, thumbtacks. As far as my limited knowledge is concerned, Katsumata has never been in a hardcore match before and Miyamoto is a legend of the genre. This will no doubt be a lot of fun. The crowd should be firmly behind the pretty boy, Katsumata, and will create a nice atmosphere.

KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Championship Match
KUDO, Yukio Sakaguchi & Masahiro Takanashi (c) vs Ryuichi Sekine, Ryota Nakatsu & Fuminori Abe

– This is where my knowledge of DDT begins to become grey. I know the majority of these names but don’t have enough information to dive deep into the story of what’s significant to note. Should be fast-paced and fun.

Daisuke Sasaki & Tetsuya Endo vs Keisuke Ishii & Ken Ohka
– The bad boys of DDT, Sasaki and Endo, challenging the wholesome boys, Ishii and Ohka. Sasaki and Endo are a part of the faction called DAMNATION along with Ishikawa and Mad Paulie. They are obnoxious and listen to heavy metal music. They also have a soft side. Ishikawa loves karaoke and Paulie enjoys dancing. There has been a disturbance in DAMNATION that Sasaki is trying to correct. This will be a good versus evil match up that may see a little bit of progression in the story of DAMNATION.

Tag Team Rumble
– The goofiness which DDT is known for will be showcased in this match. Just a whole lot of silly nonsense will be had so if you cannot handle that style of wrestling go find something else to do until the next match.

Infomercial Match
– Another goofball match. A lot will likely be lost in translation if you don’t understand Japanese. Look for people translating the show live if you’re interested.

Mad Paulie vs Tomomitsu Matsunaga
– And this as another one I’m not knowing much about. I know they’re both thick boys and I know Paulie is a lovable goofball. Maybe some big man moves and likely to be light-hearted.
