Kairi Sane defeated Shayna Baszler in the finals of the Mae Young Classic last night to become the inaugural tournament champion. After nearly being put to sleep, Kairi was able to escape Baszler’s rear naked choke finisher before eventually hitting her patented flying elbow drop for the victory. She would be awarded the Mae Young Classic trophy and a bouquet of roses by Sara Amato, Triple H and Stephanie McMahon.

Sane go on to face an opponent(s) to be determined at the next NXT TakeOver event in Houston the day before Survivor Series to determine a new NXT Women’s Champion. The previous titleholder, Asuka, vacated the championship after a 523-day reign. The undefeated ‘Empress of Tomorrow’ will reportedly debut on Monday Night RAW this coming November.
