NJPW ‘Kizuna Road 2019’ (6.16.19) Results & Review

The G1 Climax 29 participants are announced and the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions are defended at Korakuen Hall on the first of two back-to-back nights of Kizuna Road 2019. Let’s get started!

Yota Tsuji def. Yuya Uemura @ 8:50 via Boston Crab – **1/4
They start off shoving each other before the bell. Uemura takes Tsuji down, Tsuji fight back to his feet and they lock up. Tsuji takes the wristlock, Uemura spins through and takes Tsuji down into a headlock. Switching position, Tsuji takes the headlock, Uemura fights to his feet and sends Tsuji off but gets shouldered right back down to the mat. Tsuji forearms Uemura into the corner and hip tosses him back into the middle for a two count. He lands a forearms to the back, follows with a stomp and a splash to the back for another two.

Uemura fires up and they trade strikes, Tsuji hits the drops and is caught with a dropkick from Uemura. He forearms Tsuji into the corner, flies in with a dropkick and a scoop slam for a two count of his own. They trade forearms, Tsuji fires off a series of chops and hits the ropes for a dropkick followed by a powerslam for two. Uemura turns a Boston Crab into a cradle, Tsuji escapes the pin and catches Uemura running in with a spear and applies the Boston Crab. He pulls Uemura from the ropes, sits on the back and forces the submission.

Taichi, Yoshinobu Kanemaru & DOUKI def. Tomohiro Ishii, Tomoaki Honma & Ren Narita @ 11:58 via Taichi Tensho Jujiho on Narita – **3/4
Suzuki-Gun go on the jump before the bell. Narita dumps DOUKI out, dropkicks Kanemaru and lands a plancha to DOUKI. He brings him back in, hits the ropes and ducks strikes before dropping DOUKI with a shoulder tackle. He charges in and DOUKI does the splits causing Narita to bail to the floor. Kanemaru follows on Narita with a dropkick over the rails while Taichi chokes Ishii with a microphone cord. Taichi sends Narita back in, Kanemaru drapes him over the apron for a running dropkick. Ishii gets impatient, Taichi backs him away and the referee escorts Ishii back to the apron.

Suzuki-Gun continue on Narita with quick tags, he tries firing a dropkick, Kanemaru avoids one but can’t a second and Narita tags in Honma. He fires off on Kanemaru, Taichi cuts him off, Honma fires back with a pair of kokeshis to both Taichi and Kanemaru. They tag out to Ishii and Taichi. Taichi lands a series of kicks and tells Ishii to bring it. Ishii returns with chops that send Taichi to the corner but Taichi escapes a backdrop suplex, hits an enziguri, tries for a suplex of his own, Ishii escapes and conects with his. Narita gets the tag, fires off on all three, catches DOUKI in a belly-to-belly, wants the Texas Cloverleaf on Taichi, Kanemaru breaks it up and Taichi lands a buzzsaw kick. Honma breaks up the count, Narita sidesteps a thrust kick into a pair of cradles before Taichi eventually catches him with a lariat followed by a thrust kick to pick up the win.

Juice Robinson, Mikey Nicholls & Ryusuke Taguchi def. Tama Tonga, Tanga Loa & Jado @ 8:58 via Taguchi Oh My & Garankle on Jado – *
Bullet Club go on the jump before the bell and take the match outside. G.O.D. bring Juice in and look to double him in the corner but Juice side steps and Nicholls comes in for the save. Taguchi kokeshis Tama low for a near fall, climbs to the second for Juice and Nicholls to send him in but instead it’s Juice and Nicholls sent in followed by Jado’s cane. They take turn slapping and booting Taguchi on the butt, hit a couple of scoop slams followed by a slingshot senton from Loa. He drives Taguchi into the corner butt first, Tama headbutts the butt and atomic drop for two. Jado pulls the tight down, looks to hit Taguchi’s exposed butt with the cane, Juice cuts him off and fires a series of punches to all three. Nicholls drops G.O.D. with a pair of lariats, follows Loa out with a plancha and Taguchi finishes Jado in Oh My & Garankle.

Tetsuya Naito, EVIL, SANADA, Shingo Takagi & BUSHI def. Kota Ibushi, Yuji Nagata, Jushin ‘Thunder’ Liger, Tiger Mask IV & Shota Umino @ 10:38 via Shingo Pumping Bomber on Umino – **1/2
BUSHI and Tiger start off, Tiger takes him down with a series of kicks and tags in Liger. BUSHI has no problem countering their double team and LIJ start a brawl outside. EVIL comes in as the legal man, quickly tags out to SANADA who takes Liger down with a dropkick to the knee. He catches Liger’s boot and wants the Paradise Lock but Umino cuts him off. Umino fires forearms at Shingo, EVIL cuts off the flurry and SANADA ties Liger into the ropes for a dropkick. BUSHI gets the tag and chokes Liger with his shirt, charges in and is caught with a backbreaker from Liger. Naito gets the tag, is turned inside out with a shotei and Nagata is tagged in.

Shingo rushes in, gets dropped in an overhead throw and Naito takes an exploder from Nagata. BUSHI breaks up the armbar, Ibushi gets the tag and lands a springboard dropkick and follows Naito outside with a plancha. He brings Naito back in, lands a flurry of kicks but Naito gets his knee up on a moonsault and takes Ibushi down after a dropkick. Ibushi fires back on a double team with a double overhead kick and tags in Umino. He blocks two strikes from Shingo and takes him down with a vertical suplex for two and transitions into a cross armbreaker but Shingo finds the ropes. Shingo blocks a German suplex, avoids a corner back elbow and LIJ flurry on Umino but his team helps break the count. Umino wants to fires back, Shingo catches him in Noshigami for two followed by Pumping Bomber for the win.

EVIL leaves his crew hanging on the LIJ fist bump.

Jay White, Chase Owens & Yujiro Takahashi def. Hiroshi Tanahashi, Togi Makabe & Toru Yano @ 10:52 via Owens Schoolboy on Makabe – **
Makabe and Yujiro start off, Makabe eats a boot, Yujiro eats Makabe’s thumb and gets shouldered to the mat. Owens cuts off the corner punches, Yujiro does the same, Makabe shoulders both and tags in Yano. He unties the pad, Owens and Yujiro cuts him off and drop Yano with the pad. They take the match outside and drive everyone into the rails before bringing Yano back in and sending him to the exposed buckle. White pulls back on Yano’s ears and pulls him into a neckbreaker for two. He puts his knee over Yano’ throat for another two and sends him back into the exposed buckle. White turns his attention to Tanahashi and Yano uses that to pull White down by the hair and tag in Tanahashi.

White is sent to the corner, Tanahashi catches his boot and drives him into the mat with a dragon screw followed by a Texas Cloverleaf. Yujiro cuts off the hold but his boot is turned into a dragon screw. Tanahashi runs through two of White chops, gets dropped by a flatliner + German suplex combination but turns White into a Twist & Shout. They tag out to Makabe and Owens. Makabe rains down the corner punches and follows with a Northern Lights for two. Yujiro comes in and they double Makabe but Yano is there to break the fall. Owens wants the Package Piledriver, Makabe fights out and catches Owens running in with a lariat followed by a scoop slam. Yujiro cuts off the King Kong Knee Drop, Yano throws Yujiro into the exposed buckle. He tries to get White to do the same but White puts the breaks on and both Yano and Tanahashi crash in the corner. They triple Makabe and Owens rolls him into a schoolboy for the win.

Minoru Suzuki, Zack Sabre Jr. & Lance Archer def. Kazuchika Okada, YOSHI-HASHI & Toa Henare @ 14:30 via Archer Iron Claw on Henare – **1/2
Sabre takes Y-H down and targets the arm. Y-H takes the headscissors, Sabre escapes looks for a PK but Y-H ducks and tries for the butterfly hold but Sabre slides through and pie faces Y-H. A chop and shoulder tackle take Sabre to the mat, sends him to the corner for another chop and drapes him over the top rope. Sabre avoids the draping dropkick and applies a kneebar while Suzuki-Gun go on the attack outside, Suzuki going after Okada with a chair. Y-H breaks the count at nineteen but Sabre is there to take the leg and Suzuki comes in to join in on the submissions. Okada breaks Suzuki’s hold but Suzuki boots him back to the outside.

Archer comes in with a series of running back elbows and shoulders Y-H to the mat. Sabre gets the tag, lands a series of kicks, Y-H catches a boot and lariats Sabre to the mat. Suzuki comes in, eats a boot and Okada is brought in. He avoids Suzuki’s boot, cathes him with an elbow and DDT, scoop slam but his elbow drop is cut off. Suzuki fires off forearms and boots Okada into the corner, shoving the referee aside and lands a PK. Okada fires up, Suzuki eats his forearms and asks for more. They trade strikes but Okada collapses. He fights back up, Suzuki flurries with a slap that grounds Okada and applies a kimura.

Okada gets to the ropes but the referee is pulled outside so the hold stays applies until he makes his way back in to force the break. Archer wants the tag, Suzuki walks up and tells him to stand down but Archer tags in anyway and is taken down by Okada. Henare gets the tag from Okada, flurries on Archer with a Samoan Drop followed by a vertical suplex for two. They run a train on Archer, he responds with a pounce and Suzuki-Gun come in to hold everyone back. Archer hits the Blackout on Henare, pulls him back up before the three count and death grips him with the Iron Claw for the submission win.

Suzuki takes the mic and demands answers as to why he isn’t in the G1.

IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship
Taiji Ishimori & El Phantasmo def. Roppongi 3K (c) @ 23:01 via ELP CR II on YOH – **1/2

YOH and Ishimori start off, YOH sweeps the legs and takes the waistlock. Ishimori quickly gets the wrist, YOH slides through into a headlock and takes him over but Ishimori is there for a headscissors. YOH fights out, armdrags Ishimori down and follows with a dropkick before tagging in SHO. They double Ishimori, ELP gets a blind tag but they take him out too, getting a plancha on both. ELP holds the ropes on a SHO dropkick and follows with a lionsault for two before tagging out to Ishimori. A series of chops, drives SHO’s head into the turnbuckle and gets a two count. ELP comes off the top with a back rake, tags back out to Ishimori for running double knees.

ELP traps SHO in the tree of woe, stomps him low but SHO pulls him off with a German suplex and tags in YOH for a series of forearms. He catches ELP with a dragon screw but ELP boots him over the top rope and Ishimori drives him into the rails. YOH makes it back in at sixteen but ELP is waiting with a slingshot senton for two. Ishimori get the tag, catches YOH’s boots and drapes them over the second for a sliding German suplex for his own two count. YOH fights off but ELP comes in to boot SHO off the apron and trap YOH in the tree of woe to stomp him low. YOH wants to German him off but ELP flips to his feet and hits a dropkick. He grabs YOH’s boot, YOH drops him with an enziguri but Ishimori pulls SHO off the apron.

Bullet Club double YOH, he manages to dropkick them both and suplexes Ishimori into ELP, getting the tag to SHO. He comes in hot with a double spear, wants the deadlift German but Ishimori rolls through and gets the handspring enziguri. They trade forearms, SHO hits the ropes and drops Ishimori with a discuss lariat and charges in with a second lariat. He pulls Ishimori up for Shock Arrow, Ishimori turns it into Bloody Cross position, SHO escapes and charges in for a spear, Ishimori jumps over it and lands a stomp. They tag out to their partners, YOH catches ELP with the final cut and takes ELP to the top looking for a dragon suplex. ELP fights it off and lands a sunset bomb followed by a top rope splash for two.

ELP comes up empty on a moonsault and is caught in Stargazer. SHO drops Ishimori into a cross armbreaker to stop him from breaking the hold but ELP finds the ropes. They double ELP, set up for 3K but ELP turns it into a DDT. Ishimori slides the title in, ELP hits YOH and hoists him for a spinning neckbreaker for two. SHO cuts off CR II, they double ELP and lariat Ishimori to the floor. ELP is dropped with 3K, kicks out at two, SHO lands a tope con hilo on Ishimori, YOH a German on ELP for two, Ishimori breaks up the dragon suplex and shoves the referee. They hit YOH with the title, hit him low and ELP finishes YOH with CR II.

Taguchi comes in before Bullet Club can continue the beat down. He clears the ring for 3K and has them send the fans home happy even though they lost the titles.

As expected, this show was nothing but to promote the G1 participants and blocks. The show was below the standard Korakuen. There’s really nothing to see here.
