NJPW Post-Dominion Dream Matches

Published

on

At Dominion we saw five championships change hands and all of a sudden everything feels wide open and fresh, bringing new life to New Japan. There are many potential matchups that would be great to see on these new reigns. Here are a couple for each that I hope we see sometime in the next six months.

IWGP Heavyweight Championship
Kenny Omega vs Kota Ibushi
– This of course has to be on top of everyone’s list. People have been dreaming of this match for several years now and with Omega winning the title, it’d feel like a crime if we didn’t see these two reignite their feud.
Kenny Omega vs Tetsuya Naito
– The last two years, matches between Omega and Naito have stolen the G1 Climax. Now that Omega is champion, it’d only be fitting to see them clash again. I’d personally love to see it be next year’s main event at Wrestle Kingdom

IWGP Intercontinental Championship
Chris Jericho vs Minoru Suzuki
– So New Japan’s version of Jericho likes to brawl, you say? Let’s see him against the master brawler, Minoru Suzuki. There aren’t many things I’d like to see than Minoru Suzuki slapping the taste out of Jerichio’s mouth.
Chris Jericho vs Hiroshi Tanahashi
– Two of the greatest in their generations and two of the smartest wrestlers to step foot in the ring. After seeing how well Jericho has performed so far in New Japan there is little doubt these two could blow the roof off.

NEVER Openweight Championship
Michael Elgin vs Tomohiro Ishii
– It’s been a long time since Ishii has stood in the spotlight. Too long. There is no better opponent for him than Michael Elgin. Two dudes who love bashing faces in with their forearms. I need this one to happen.
Michael Elgin vs Hangman Page
– You can’t find two more athletic big men than Elgin and Page. They pull off moves you don’t even expect out of juniors. A match between them would be complete insanity.

IWGP Tag Team Championship
The Young Bucks vs Kazuchika Okada & Hirooki Goto
– What are Okada and Goto to do now that they’re without their titles? Okada going after any title other than the heavyweight feels foreign and weird but the Bucks mixing it up with the premiere wrestlers in the division would be fresh for both Okada and Goto at this point.
The Young Bucks vs Minoru Suzuki & Zack Sabre Jr.
– Why not have the IWGP and RevPro tag champs mix it up title versus title? I’d love to see the Bucks find a way to overcome the submission game of Suzuki and Sabre.

IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship
Hiromu Takahashi vs El Desperado
– After their match during BOSJ, who’s mouth isn’t watering for the next installment between these two? The feud is built in and Desperado having the win over Hiromu makes the match seem more than plausible.
Hiromu Takahashi vs Dragon Lee
– The feud everyone hopes will go on forever. Who doesn’t want another match? If you’re one of those people, close the window now.
