NJPW ‘Super Jr. Tag League 2018’ (10.31.18) Results & Review

The tournament winds down on its second to last night with a battle between BCOG and team CMLL. Both teams have already been eliminated so the match is just a formality. Let’s get started.

Volador Jr. & Soberano Jr. def. Taiji Ishimori & Robbie Eagles @ 8:57 via Volador Top Rope Hurricanrana on Eagles – *3/4
Volador and Ishimori start off. Really low energy to start off so they spent a minute urging the crowd to chant for them. Ishimori lands an armdrag into a headscissors takedown. Volador hits the ropes but is cut off by Eagles, turns around and takes Ishimori down with a rana. Eagles follows with a springboard rana onto Volador and Soberano responds with a dropkick before Ishimori hits a dropkick of his own. Soberano and Eagles trade armdrags and Eagles cuts off a springboard crossbody with a dropkick. Ishimori and Eagles grind down Soberano until he manages to fire off a superkick + corner lariat and finishes off the flurry with a springboard corner dropkick on Eagles and lands on Ishimori with a splash. Volador gets the tag, Soberano takes down both members of BC with a tope and Volador follows with an Asai Moonsault. All four are down on the outside until Volador and Ishimori roll back inside to break the count. Ishimori dodges Volador in the corner and springboards off the top with a sitout splash. He and Eagles land their combination knees in the corner. Soberano break the count but Ishimori takes him outside and keeps him down with a twisting plancha. Eagles heads to the top but Volador cuts him off and puts him down with a hurricanrana off the top for the win.

This was tough for anyone to sink their teeth into, the wrestlers included. Both teams were already eliminated, this was their final night and the crowd wasn’t giving them much to work with. Not the smoothest, there seemed to be some miscommunication but they kept it short and fine. Not a match to spend the time on, even considering its the shortest of the tournament. I’m ready for this tournament to be over and it felt like both the wrestlers and fans agree. Lucky for everybody there’s only one more night to go.
