NJPW ‘World Tag League 2017 Night 15 & 16′ 12.6/7.17 Results & Review

Hard camera only for the fifteenth and sixteenth night of the World Tag League. New Japan edited the shows, only providing us with the tournament matches.

Night 15

Yujiro & Page def. Suzuki & Iizuka @ 5:29
Suzuki and Iizuka were serious from the jump. They attacked both Yujiro and Page before they had the chance to enter the ring. There was a lot of brawling into the crowd and all the usual stuff from Suzuki. Iizuka used the Iron Finger from Hell on Page and as such, he and Suzuki were disqualified. So many things in New Japan get overlooked but this was lame. Yujiro and Page weren’t allowed to go over clean on Iizuka so this is what we get.

Goto & Yoshi-Hashi def. Nagata & Nakanishi @ 11:57
This wasn’t much different from other Nagata and Nakanishi matches we’ve seen on the tour and by this point it’s gotten old for me personally. The crowd loved seeing the veterans show spirit well beyond their years but ultimately wear and tear caught them before the boys in their prime. Nakanishi ate the GYR and that was that. Nothing match for me at this point in the tournament but for the live crowd, who likely hasn’t been keeping up with the tournament, they ate up what was being served.

Night 16

War Machine def. Finlay & Kitamura @ 7:48
Fine and respectable tag match between these two teams. They all shook hands before, bowed after and a fine middle. Kitamura had the spot of the night when he Gutwrench suplex’d big Hanson; very cool moment. There wasn’t anything wrong but very standard, by the books match. Easily forgettable just minutes later. War Machine won via Fallout onto Kitamura.

Killer Elite Squad def. Makabe & Henare @ 10:11
I’m sure I’ve made it clear in previous reviews but I think K.E.S. are awesome. Their big man style fits in so well with New Japan and it’s no wonder they’ve been as successful as they have over the last five years. When paired up with Henare this match was a lot of fun. With Makabe it was noticeably lacking in anything that can remotely be called wrestling, which is a damn shame. They hit the Killer Bomb on Henare to pick up the win.

I’m not going to recommend you watch any of these four matches. For all different reasons each of these matches under performed. Thankfully the next three shows will all by live, with commentary and multiple angles.
