NJPW ‘World Tag League 2018’ (11.26.18) Match Predictions

Published

on

Seeing as the World Tag League is the least engaging time of the year to be a fan of New Japan, each night before the tournament I’ll be making match predictions. On the bottom of every ‘Results & Review’ article I’ll have a tally of my score so that you can keep up and gauge my accuracy. This is my way of trying to keep everyone engaged during the slow months leading up to Wrestle Kingdom. Feel free to give me a hard time on Twitter.

This will be another non-live/VOD show and as such, only the tournament matches will be uploaded. Therefore, I’ll only be predicting the matches that will actually be made available to watch.

World Tag League Tournament Match
Zack Sabre Jr. & Taichi (2-2) vs Shota Umino & Ayato Yoshida (0-4)

You know the routine, young lions lose. Should be nice to see them fire back on Taichi for taking them lightly. He’ll smugly take it easy on them, eat a chop and flip a switch.
Prediction: Sabre & Taichi

World Tag League Tournament Match
Killer Elite Squad (3-1) vs Yuji Nagata & Manabu Nakanishi (1-3)

Nagata and Nakanishi haven’t won since their opening day upset over Tencozy. They’re due for another win soon but over an established team like K.E.S. seems like too big of an ask for these legends.
Prediction: Killer Elite Squad

World Tag League Tournament Match
Hangman Page & Yujiro Takahashi (2-2) vs Togi Makabe & Toa Henare (1-3)

I’ve wanted to count out Page and Yujiro from the start but this should be another win for them. Page and Yujiro are a tough team to gauge because they’re a prime example of filler yet Page has been somewhat of a breakout star this year. I can definitely see him picking up a win on Henare.
Prediction: Page & Yujiro

World Tag League Tournament Match
Beretta & Chuckie T. (3-1) vs Minoru Suzuki & Takashi Iizuka (1-3)

I can’t picture Best Friends beating a Suzuki-led team, nor can I picture a team featuring Iizuka beating a prominent tag team. This is a real head scratcher. I’ll predict the more featured of the two teams but they have my attention in some bizarre way.
Prediction: Beretta & Chuckie

World Tag League Tournament Match
EVIL & SANADA (3-1) vs Hiroyoshi Tenzan & Satoshi Kojima (2-2)

EVIL and SANADA are coming off their first tournament loss and facing the most formidable of the legend teams. Still, a loss to Tencozy would feel like a pretty big upset at this stage. I can’t see it actually happening.
Prediction: EVIL & SANADA

World Tag League Tournament Match
Juice Robinson & David Finlay (3-1) vs Tomohiro Ishii & Toru Yano (3-1)

The top of the block collides! The match can definitely go either way and I’m actually surprised by the record of both teams. Since I already have one Chaos team (Best Friends) going to 4-1, I’ll predict Ishii and Yano take the loss here but those results can flip and I couldn’t be surprised.
Prediction: FinJuice

World Tag League Tournament Match
Jeff Cobb & Michael Elgin (1-3) vs Guerrillas of Destiny (3-1)

Cobb and Elgin dropped their first three before picking up their first win last night. I see them surging through the tag champions here. Their size doesn’t make them underdogs or upset winners, they look like legitimate contenders in every match. They’ll take the champs beyond their breaking point.
Prediction: Cobb & Elgin

Predictions
Tournament: 18/28
Overall: 25/38
