NJPW ‘World Tag League 2018’ (11.28.18) Match Predictions

Published

on

Seeing as the World Tag League is the least engaging time of the year to be a fan of New Japan, each night before the tournament I’ll be making match predictions. On the bottom of every ‘Results & Review’ article I’ll have a tally of my score so that you can keep up and gauge my accuracy. This is my way of trying to keep everyone engaged during the slow months leading up to Wrestle Kingdom. Feel free to give me a hard time on Twitter.

This will be another non-live/VOD show and as such, only the tournament matches will be uploaded. Therefore, I’ll only be predicting the matches that will actually be made available to watch.

World Tag League Tournament Match
EVIL & SANADA (4-1) vs Shota Umino & Ayato Yoshida (0-5)

An obvious result but another test for Umino. He’s been so fun to follow and watching him fire off against EVIL and SANADA will be a treat.
Prediction: EVIL & SANADA

World Tag League Tournament Match
Yuji Nagata & Manabu Nakanishi (1-4) vs Zack Sabre Jr. & Taichi (3-2)

Since the following night is at Korakuen Hall I’ll predict that the legends win here so that their record doesn’t look so sad.
Prediction: Nagata & Nakanishi

World Tag League Tournament Match
Satoshi Kojima & Hiroyoshi Tenzan (2-3) vs Beretta & Chuckie T. (3-2)

Three steps forward, two steps back for Best Friends. I see another step back. It’ll bolster Tencozy’s record heading into Korakuen Hall and give fans hope that they can string some wins together.
Prediction: Tenzan & Kojima

World Tag League Tournament Match
Minoru Suzuki & Takashi Iizuka (2-3) vs Juice Robinson & David Finlay (3-2)

I knew picking Best Friends to beat Suzuki and Iizuka was a mistake and yet I still went ahead and did it anyway. Now I’ll pick them to win and they’ll lose. Suzuki and Iizuka face off against Sabre and Taichi the following night so I’ll say they meet up with identical records.
Prediction: Suzuki & Iizuka

World Tag League Tournament Match
Togi Makabe & Toa Henare (1-4) vs Jeff Cobb & Michael Elgin (2-3)

Another case of evening out the records a bit so that everyone goes into Korakuen Hall feeling like they still have a chance.
Prediction: Makabe & Henare

World Tag League Tournament Match
Tomohiro Ishii & Toru Yano (4-1) vs Hangman Page & Yujiro Takahashi (3-2)

The now nameless team of Page and Yujiro have rattled off three wins in a row and will find themselves looking first place in the face when they meet up with Ishii and Yano. Spoiler: Ishii and Yano face EVIL and SANADA in the tournament main event the following night. That should mean both teams meet up with the same record so chalk another win up for Ishii and Yano.
Prediction: Ishii & Yano

World Tag League Tournament Match
Guerrillas of Destiny (3-2) vs Killer Elite Squad (4-1)

This seems pretty clear, doesn’t it? Even out the scores and have the champions go into Korakuen Hall looking strong. Pretty cut and dry logic.
Prediction: Guerrillas of Destiny

Predictions
Tournament: 23/35
Overall: 30/45
