NXT TakeOver Brooklyn 4: Preview & Predictions

Published

on

With SummerSlam weekend fast approaching, it’s time to focus our attention on it’s precursor, NXT Takeover Brooklyn. Every time a Takeover is on, it steals the weekend and this one is looking to be no exception. The card is stacked with more potential show stealing matches than ever. Here is a rundown of those matches and as a bit of fun Rob, who has recently become NXT’s biggest fan and John go head to head to bring you their predictions for the event.

NXT Tag Team Championship Match
The Undisputed Era (c) vs Moustache Mountain

John
After a tragic loss on NXT TV, Moustache Mountain are set to try and recover their lost titles. Strong and Bate put on a clinic on this week’s episode of NXT where Bate went over clean. This leaves Moustache Mountain looking strong and with the momentum being gained by NXT UK it might not be out of the question seeing them reclaim the titles. That being said I think The Undisputed Era are keeping the titles and will be thrown headfirst into a feud with War Raiders. Regardless of who wins this is going to be another top-tier match and a potential show stealer.
WINNER: Undisputed Era

Rob
The NXT tag division has been the highlight for several years now and it’s only gotten better. You can make a convincing case that this match will be stealing the show on Saturday as proof of their NXT TV tag title match. Both teams fit together like a glove. Bate and O’Reilly are technical masters and there aren’t many guys who can create as much sympathy as Trent Seven. NXT can’t go wrong whichever way they decide. Undisputed Era have been consistently entertaining every time they’re on the screen and seeing more of Moustache Mountain could never be a bad thing. A title change would be a shot in the arm for the division and could create a lot of fresh matches in the immediate future so while it can go either way, I’m hoping for a change.
Prediction: Moustache Mountain

Velveteen Dream vs EC3

John
Two of the biggest enigmas in NXT are set to clash at Takeover. We have a battle of ego and athleticism as EC3 is set to get some vengeance against his runaway tag partner Velveteen Dream. Watching these two try to get into each other’s head has been an entertaining ride and both men will no doubt continue their unrivalled ring psychology throughout the match. I’d expect some move stealing, taunting and a lot of physical violence. A true battle for dominance and the chance to upstage the other. Both of these men are unpredictable enough that either man could pick up the win. Neither man will suffer too much from a loss as they are both massively over with the crowd so I think Velveteen will get the win and potential carry on the feud by lauding it over EC3.
WINNER: Velveteen Dream

Rob
There is a great dynamic between these two egomaniacs who are looking to upstage one another at any cost. Dream has done his best to get into EC3’s head but was exposed on the go-home when EC3 acknowledged Dream’s plan. These two mirror each other in a lot of ways which is what’s going to make this match so engaging. This is one that can go either way because both guys are removed enough from reality that they’ll be able to rebound quickly. I wouldn’t be discouraged over whichever guy takes the loss here but Dream has the most upside so I’ll side with him for this one.
Prediction: Velveteen Dream

NXT North American Championship Match
Adam Cole (c) vs Ricochet

John
Adam Cole is being forced by Ricochet to prove that he has the talent to hold onto his North American Title. Cole is the person responsible for costing Ricochet the belt in the ladder match and has since made sure he never loses the belt by barely defending it unless against people he knows he can beat. This has raised the ire of Ricochet who wants Cole to prove himself or to take the belt from him. These two are polar opposites in the ring with Ricochet being fast and physical and Cole being much more methodical in his approach. Once again this will be another top quality match and it’s about time to see Adam Cole get under the skin of his opponent. He is an amazing heel and he couldn’t be paired with a better wrestler. I think it’s going to be another big night for the Undisputed Era so Cole wins.
WINNER: Adam Cole

Rob
Just fingertips away from becoming the inaugural NXT North American Champion, Ricochet gets his revenge on the man who made sure that didn’t happen, Adam Cole. The way in which Cole won was cheap but that’s not what bothers Ricochet the most, it’s that he hasn’t done anything with the title. Since becoming champion, Cole has only defended the title twice and both times were against guys he knew he could beat. This time around, he faces his biggest challenge to date in Ricochet. Cole will be forced to actually perform at his highest level if he wants to stand any chance at beating Ricochet so we’re in store for peak performances from both men. I see more potential for growth in Cole. His character feels like it’s barely scratched the surface while Ricochet still has a lot to show in terms of character. This could be the sleeper hit of the show.
Prediction: Adam Cole

NXT Women’s Championship Match
Shayna Baszler (c) vs Kairi Sane

John
This is a feud going all the way back to the Mae Young Classic finals. Sane beat Shayna to take win the inaugural tournament. Ever since there has been an on again off again feud as Sane is one of the few people to beat Baszler and could potentially do it again. They are 1/1 in matches now after Baszler reclaimed a victory. This is the rubber match and is most likely going to be a brutal, personal war. Sane destroyed Aliyah to prove a point and Baszler has torn through her competition so both have the killer instinct to destroy the other. I think that Baszler has been a dominant champ and it will continue with this match going her way. Sane will take Baszler to her limit but will ultimately pass out in the Kirifuda Clutch.
WINNER: Shayna Baszler

Rob
Rivaled only by the tag division, NXT’s women have been the standouts for years. Baszler and Sane are split at one win a piece heading into this match but most people only remember Sane’s win and that’s a key part to this story. Sane may have pinned Baszler to win the Mae Young Classic but Baszler claims to be on another level these days. Sane responded on the go-home show by displaying submissions of her own before showing off the killer instinct that Baszler claimed she lacked. The build has been a year in the making and you could not have wanted anything better. Both women have been dominant in their own ways with Baszler bringing a realistic edge to the ring while Sane has the traditional wrestling style. These two should tear it down in a great clash of styles but the story is Baszler’s dominance, not Kairi’s heart.
Prediction: Shayna Baszler

NXT Championship Match – Last Man Standing
Tommaso Ciampa (c) vs Johnny Gargano

John
The third match in this nuclear feud has been set as a last man standing match for the NXT Title. The stakes in this feud will never be higher than this. Both previous matches have been Takeover stealers and this one will most likely be no exception. It is a shame we will not see Aleister Black in the match as he suffered an unfortunate injury and has been written out of the match. That means there will be no distractions for either man as they attempt to destroy each other once again. It’s hard to predict a winner as Ciampa has taken the belt and turned himself into the ultimate heel champion, he is loathed by the crowd and has the perfect level of delusion. On the other hand though, Johnny Gargano is the ultimate underdog. The crowd wants him to succeed and after his interference got Ciampa crowned, is in desperate need of redemption. That being said I think this will be Ciampa’s night as he has really become the top dog in NXT.
WINNER: Tommaso Ciampa

Rob
The injury to Aleister Black is extremely unfortunate as his insertion into this feud between Ciampa and Gargano helped bring a new dynamic but it could have been worse. Since Ciampa is coming in as champion, there is new life in this feud that’ll help it feel fresh enough. Honestly, if you’re going to have a fallback plan, it doesn’t get better than another match between these two so it really was best case scenario. I see no reason for Gargano to come out with the win. As beloved as he is, it’s Ciampa that the fans really care about so keeping him hot is exactly what’s needed.
Prediction: Tommaso Ciampa
