‘Okada vs. Evil’ IWGP Heavyweight Title Match set for King of Pro-Wrestling

A headlining contest has been confirmed for New Japan Pro Wrestling’s annual October PPV event.

IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada will defend his title against ‘King of Darkness’ Evil on October 9th at Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo. Evil earned this title shot by upsetting Okada on night 14 of the tournament. It was the first time Okada had suffered defeat in singles competition in nearly a full year dating all the way back to last year’s G1.

If Okada can successfully defend his title against Evil on October 9th it’ll bring him within days of besting Shinya Hashimoto’s record of 489 as IWGP Heavyweight Champion that has remained intact for over 20 years. October 22nd would be the target date for Okada to break the record.

NJPW King of Pro-Wrestling will air at 4 a.m. ET and 5 p.m. local time on NJPWWorld. Tetsuya Naito will also put his Tokyo Dome title shot on the line against Tomohiro Ishii on this card.
