Progress Chapter 54: Go To Your God Like a Soldier

August 27th, 2017
The Electric Ballroom
Camden, London, England

Match #1: Strangler Davis defeats Connor Mills
A short showcase here for the new incarnation of James Davis and a Progress debut for the young upstart Connor Mills. Since breaking up the London Riots at Chapter 53, Davis is looking to start a riot of his own by choking out Mills with a standing strangle hold for the submission victory.

Up next, Flash Morgan Webster came down to host a live in ring episode of Morgan Webster’s wrestling friends featuring his very special guests Jimmy Havoc and Mark Haskins. Havoc and Haskins have been having some issues with each other over the past couple months and Webster attempts to help them patch things up. They talk things out and extend apologies but tensions are still high. Havoc makes a good point that British Strong Style has been the reason for all the tension. Webster agrees and says they all need to stick together. Travis Banks hits the ring because all four men have one thing in common, they all have been having problems with British Strong Style. Banks starts to speak as Pete Dunne hits the ring. Dunne tells Banks he has picked his opponents for tonight which are Haskins and Havoc. Banks says he chose the same for Dunne. Jim Smallman makes it a tag match for the main event, Havoc and Haskins versus Dunne and Banks.

Match #2: Tyler Bate defeats Kid Lykos
The road to Alexander Palace continues for this heated rivalry between the champs BSS and CCK. Really good match here. This bout comes to an end after Trent Seven hit Lykos with a lariat behind the ref’s back followed by a Tyler Driver from Bate for the win. After the match, Trent toys with the crowd about the first stipulation saying it would be a Punjabi Prison match, then says it will be a Falls Count Anywhere in the ring match. Trent shows confidence that he will beat Chris Brookes later tonight to pick the second stip for their plan to come together.

Match #3: Dahlia Black defeats Jinny to become the #1 contender for the Progress Women’s Title
Once the best of friends, now bitter enemies. Jinny and Dahlia put on a great match here. After getting hit with a Styles Clash by Jinny and kicking out before the three, Dahlia rolls Jinny up to secure the victory and heads to the Palace to challenge Toni Storm for the strap.

Match #4 Chris Brookes defeats Trent Seven
Earlier in the night, Trent made it known they had a plan after he won his match. Plans got cut short however, after a fun match, Bate gets caught trying to pedigree Brookes and gets tossed out by referee Chris Roberts. While the ref is busy with Bate, Lykos runs in to assist Brookes. CCK hits Trent with a lung blower + running senton combo as the ref turns around in time to make the three count. CCK picks the stip for the title match and makes it a ladder match at Chapter 55.

Match #5: Grizzled Young Vets defeat F.S.U.
Pretty good tag match here. After a hard fought effort by the former tag champs, F.S.U. come up short when Drake and Gibson hit Dennis with a Ticket to Mayhem for the victory.

Match #6: Timothy Thatcher defeats Doug Williams
These two put on an absolute clinic here wearing one another down with a variety of holds and a forearm warfare. Thatcher prevails over Williams when he locks in the Fujiwara armbar for the submission victory.

Match #7: Pete Dunne & Travis Banks defeat Jimmy Havoc & Mark Haskins
Strange pairings here in this match. Both teams were highly dysfunctional here. Pete spent most of the match hanging out at the commentator booth while Banks held his own. Havoc and Haskins had it going for a bit but then it all broke apart they started going at each other. After Havoc walks out on Haskins, Pete ran down and tossed Banks out of the ring and hit Haskins with the Bitter End to win the match. After the match, BSS unite and beat down on Banks. CCK runs down for the save. Dunne runs to the back and comes back out with a sledge hammer in one hand and Dahlia Black in the other. It’s enough to distract CCK as BSS beats them down. Dunne then knees Black. The show ends with Dunne hitting Banks and CCK with the sledge hammer.

Final Thoughts
This was a great go home show to Alexander Palace. The fans got a huge treat with the main event not being announced until the 2nd segment of the show. This show built so much story heading into the next chapter. September 10th at the Palace is gonna be one for the ages!
