‘Progress: New York’ event results & recap

August 12th 2017
Elmcor Centre, Queens

This show is currently available for your viewing pleasure at Progress: On Demand

Match #1: Jack Gallagher defeats Zack Gibson
Originally, Pete Dunne was scheduled to defend his WWE U.K. Title against Gallagher. Unfortunately, Dunne suffered an injury the night before working for Battle Club Pro and wasn’t cleared to compete. For a match that was made last-minute, this was an excellent way to start the show. It’s been a while since Gallagher has competed inside of a progress ring and Liverpool’s #1 sure did give Jack a run for his money. Jacky boy picks up the win after hitting a vicious diving headbutt on Gibson.

Match #2: Jinny & Deonna Purrazzo defeats Dahlia Black & Dakota Kai
Both Purrazzo and Kai were making their Progress debuts in this match. A great tag match here. Most of the focus of the match was on the injured ankle of Black. After a heated battle, Kai got nailed with a neck breaker by Purrazzo for the pin.

Match #3: Timothy Thatcher defeats Donovan Dijak to become the #1 contender for the Atlas Title
A hard-hitting match from the big lads. Dijak looked great in his Progress debut but fell short to Thatcher tapping out to a Fujiwara armbar. After the match, Stokley Hathaway announced Thatcher is gonna cash in on his newly earned Atlas Title shot at Alexander Palace.

Match #4: Jimmy Havoc defeats Joey Janela in a No Disqualification match.
This match was absolutely incredible! Jimmy Havoc is one of the best when it comes to hardcore wrestling and Joey Janela is one of the very few men that’s on his level. Janela won the hearts of the Progress Ultras in his debut for the promotion. Havoc picks up the win with the Acid Rainmaker.

Match #5: Mark Haskins defeats Mark Andrews, Austin Theory, and Keith Lee
This match was a lot of fun. All 4 men going all out. Mark Haskins takes the win in the match after locking in the sharp shooter on Austin Theory for the submission victory.

Match #6: Travis Banks defeats British Strong Style (Trent Seven & Tyler Bate) in a handicap match
The match first started out as a tag title match between BSS and South Pacific Power Trip but was ruled a no contest after TK Cooper injured his ankle after a corkscrew moonsault from the top rope to the outside. Banks gets on the mic and says he isn’t done and ask for a handicap match against the champs. Despite being short his partner, Banks holds his own against the champs and picks up the win after hitting Seven with a slice of heaven for the 1-2-3.

Main Event: Matt Riddle defeats Walter (c) for the Progress Atlas Title
These 2 men absolutely tore the house down! The last time these 2 met Walter had Riddle scouted and dethroned him of the Atlas Title. This time around Riddle came in changing things up a bit. The chops they traded back and forth to one another was just absolutely brutal. The Aussie came up short in retaining the strap after Riddle locks in the Bromission for the win and regains the atlas title becoming the first ever 2 time Atlas champ.

Final Thoughts
Overall this was a really solid show bell to bell. Not a bad match on the card. The loss of having Pete vs. Gallagher In the main didn’t hurt the show at all. The crowd stayed completely into it the entire night. Kudos to Progress for once again putting another stellar show on American soil.
