RAW Report: SummerSlam go-home show

Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins have finally reunited and will compete for the Raw Tag Team Titles at SummerSlam. Akira Tozawa won the Cruiserweight Title and Sasha Banks will challenge Alexa Bliss for the Raw Women’s Title SummerSlam.

Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins reunite on Raw

Dean Ambrose opened the show and called out Seth Rollins. Rollins comes out and says he’s done playing games. Rollins puts his fist out. WWE Universe loudly chanted “Yes” Ambrose and Rollins argued back-and-forth which led to a brawl. Cesaro and Sheamus came out and attacked both Ambrose and Rollins.Ambrose and Rollins cleared the Raw Tag Team Champions from the ring. Ambrose and Rollins reunited and did the classic Shield pose as the WWE Universe went wild. Kurt Angle came out and announced a Tag Team Championship match for SummerSlam.

  • This was a good opening segment and the Shield enjoyed the mini-Shield renuion.

Michael Cole, Corey Graves and Booker T sent out their thoughts and prayers to Ric Flair his family tonight after undergoing surgery earlier today.

Sasha Banks def. Nia Jax in a Number One Contender’s match

Highlights included Jax swinging Banks into the barricade. Jax delivered a running leg drop but Banks kicked out. Banks got her hand on the bottom rope after Jax delivered a Samoan drop. Jax delivered another Samoan drop but Banks rolled to the floor. Jax went for a superplex, but Banks escaped and went for a sunset flip power bomb. Jax wouldn’t budge, so Banks kicked Jax’s legs out from under her. Banks delivered the double stomp from the middle rope but Jax kicked out. Banks applied the Bank Statement but Jax powered out. Banks reversed a Samoan Drop and delivered a DDT. Banks then reapplied the Bank Statement as Jax tapped out.

  • A good match and the crowd was really behind Banks.

Backstage: Kurt Angle with Matt & Jeff Hardy and The Miztourage

Angle said the Hardys will not get their match against the Revival at SummerSlam because of Scott Dawson’s injury. Matt said it was unfortunate because they had a “delightful’ time with the Revival. Crowd cheered. The Miz, Maryse, Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel walked in. Angle said Jason Jordan will face Axel tonight. Miz said the match isn’t happening and he wanted to face Jordan. A WWE official ran in and said Bray Wyatt and Finn Balor were fighting and Angle bolted from the room.

Balor and Wyatt were brawling backstage. Angle came it and broke it up. Balor jumped Wyatt again and wanted to face him tonight. Angle made the match for tonight.

Elias takes out R-Truth

Elias was in the ring and asked the crowd “Who wants to walk with Elias?” The crowd cheered. Elias then sang a song and ran down Boston in the process. R-Truth came out dancing and sang his own song. Elias attacked R-Truth and then laid him out with a swinging neck breaker (Drift Away)

Big Cass Promo

Cass tried to start his dialogue six times, but got booed louder each time and had to stop. Cass looked happy with the amount of heat he received. Cass said Amore can only watch as he takes out the Big Show at SummerSlam. Enzo came out and delivers his usual catchphrases. Enzo then brought out the Big Show.

Big show entered the ring but was jumped from behind by Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson. Big Show went for a double chokeslam but Cass delivered a big boot to the Big Show. Gallows strapped a belt on the wrist of Big Show’s wrist. Big Cass delivered a big boot to Amore who was standing on the ring apron. Big Cass then slammed the door of the shark cage on Big Show’s wrist.

WWE Cruiserweight Championship Match: Akira Tozawa def. Neville to win the Cruiserweight Title.

Highlights included Neville delivering a missile drop kick from the top rope for a near fall. Tozawa recovered by delivering back-to-back suicide dives. Neville then delivered a top rope superplex. Neville used the referee as a shield, then put Tozawa in the Rings of Saturn. Tozawa reversed it into a pinning combination but Neville kicked out. Neville went for the Red Arrow but Tozawa moved out of the way. Tozawa then delivered a top rope Senton and won the title.

  • A good match and the crowd was rallying behind Tozawa.

Doctor’s Office: The Big Show and Enzo Amore

Enzo was concerned and told Big Show to forget about his match at SummerSlam. Big Show said he’s going to face Big Cass and left the room.

Backstage: Emma and Mickie James

Emma walked in and started to complain about last week’s triple threat match. Mickie said Emma should stop complaining and challenged her to a match on Raw.

Brat Wyatt def. Finn Balor

Highlights included Balor delivering a baseball slide and then followed it up with a running mule kick from the ring apron. Wyatt took control after the commercial break but Balor recovered by delivering an over head kick. Balor delivered a sling blade and went for a missile drop kick but Wyatt countered with a running body attack. Wyatt went for Sister Abigail, but Balor tripped him and nailed a double stomp. Balor then delivered a missile drop kick into the barricade. Balor went for the Coup de Grace but Wyatt crotched him on the top rope. Wyatt then delivered the Sister Abigail and got the clean win.

  • Wyatt gave Balor another Sister Abigail after the match and then dumped a bucket of blood all over him. Cole later mentioned it was “acidic liquid substance.”

Mickie James def. Emma

A short match match with not much reaction as James won after delivering the Mick kick.

Backstage: Charly Caruso interviewed Finn Balor

Balor walked out of Angle’s office and Charly Caruso asked what the meeting was about? Balor said he got his rematch with Wyatt at SumerSlam. Balor said Wyatt will find out Balor has demons of his own.

Jason Jordan def. WWE Intercontinental Champion The Miz via DQ

Jordan took control for most part of the match and went for his jumping neck breaker but Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel interfered. After the match, Matt and Jeff came out and made the save. Jeff delivered the Poetry in Motion to Miz and Jordan followed up with a belly-to-belly suplex.

Jason Jordan, Matt & Jeff Hardy def. The Miz and Miztourage.

Highlights included Jeff delivering the Whisper in the Wind to Bo Dallas. Jeff gave Dallas the Twist of Fate, but Axel made the save. Jordan delivered a jumping neck breaker to The Miz, then gave Dallas the overhead belly-to-belly. Finish came with Matt delivering the Twist of Fate to Dallas and Jeff followed it up the Swanton Bomb for the pin.

WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns, Samoa Joe and Braun Strowman went face-to-face-to-face-to-face

Angle was in the ring for the face-to-face-to-face-to-face confrontation with Lesnar, Joe, Reigns and Strowman. Strowman and Joe. There were security guards around ringside. Lesnar and Paul Heyman came out to a pretty good reaction. Heyman cut another great promo and hyped up the Universal Title match at SummerSlam. Joe came out as the crowd chanted “Joe, Joe, Joe” Joe said he isn’t afraid of Lesnar and will put him to sleep at SummerSlam. Strowman came out and said he will be the last man standing. Joe said he was the last man standing after he put Reigns to sleep.

Reigns came out and delivered a spear to Joe. Strowman delivered a running powerslam to Reigns. Lesnar and Strowman came face-to-face as the crowd cheered. The security guards came in and pulled them apart. Lesnar and Strowman took out the security guards. Angle cleared out the Raw locker room. The Raw superstars held Lesnar and Strowman back as the crowd chanted “let them fight” Lesnar and Strowman exchanged some back-and-forth strikes as the show came to a close.

  • This was a good segment to close the show

Overall

It was a good go-home episode of Raw and the SummerSlam card looks pretty good. Will be interesting to see how the show is booked and the finish of the matches.
