Shimmer 100 Event Preview

Shimmer’s landmark 100th show takes place this Saturday in New Orleans as part of the WWNLive Experience during MoreThanMania weekend.

Nicole Savoy ended up getting the last laugh this past November in Berwyn when she ended the 364-day Championship reign of Mercedes Martinez.

With Shayna Baszler departing Trifecta for NXT, Martinez would recruit the legendary Aja Kong to become the new #2 of the stable. Martinez and Kong would treat Savoy as the weakest link of the group, causing some violent inner turmoil that would lead to the eventual break up of the faction.

At Shimmer 99, Savoy would give Martinez her comeuppance in an instant classic to become just the 9th World Champion in Shimmer’s decade plus history. She now enters the biggest show in the history of the promotion as such, where her first defense will come against her now former “leader” in the main event.

In the co-main event of the afternoon, Sydney, Australia’s Shazza McKenzie will defend her Heart of Shimmer title against Tessa Blanchard. McKenzie has been an active champion since defeating the aforementioned Savoy for the title at Shimmer 93. She’s defended against the likes of Courtney Rush (Rosemary), Nicole Matthews, former 2-time World Champion Cheerleader Mellissa, Kellyanne, Allysin Kay and Veda Scott in consecutive events leading up to Shimmer 100.

McKenzie will have her hands full with Blanchard, a game challenger who has been making waves of late as a champion in multiple promotions. Blanchard’s recent loss to former tag team partner Vanessa Kraven in a Lumberjill match at Shimmer 99 should only add fuel to the fire when she looks to add another strap to her collection in NOLA.

Also on the card, Shimmer Tag Team Champions Delilah Doom and Leva Bates, collectively known as the Totally Tubular Tag Team, will defend their titles against the team of current Shine Champion LuFisto and Hudson Envy. In singles competition the red-hot Toni Storm will square off against Nicole Matthews after former two-time Shimmer Champion Madison Eagles takes on Deonna Purrazzo. The return of Kimber Lee and and a match between former RISE Champ Shotzi Blackheart and Cheerleader Melissa that has show-stealer written all over it are also set for Shimmer 100.

Bell time for Shimmer 100 is 5 p.m. ET on Saturday April 7th at the Pontchartrain Center. You can watch the show live on FITETV or at WWNLive.
