Silas Young and Jay Lethal: A match made in wrestling heaven

Something has been lacking in feuds that I’ve been watching lately. That missing component has been a solid heel and face distinction with some upcoming wrestlers.

A good babyface and heel that can convey to the fans why their matchup is worth our time. What is their motivation to win? Why do think that they are the best? Why do they deserve the title that is near and dear to their hearts?

In one of my favorite promotions, Ring of Honor, I think that I have found that feud. Oh yes, the intense rivalry of Silas Young and Jay Lethal has fed my soul in ways that only an old school battle can.

For years, I have been a fan of both talents and I never thought about what a possible feud would look like. Well, I could never imagine not seeing these goliaths duke it out now that they have shown me the light.

Silas has been holding a grudge against Jay Lethal for months now. This is due to Lethal, apparently, getting opportunities that he has not earned—in Young’s opinion of course.

Silas is a man who takes what he wants and decided to attack Lethal backstage one night and thus the feud began. The brutal attacks and harsh words didn’t stop and Lethal had no choice but to defend himself. Because of Silas’ partner in crime, Beer City Bruiser, Lethal had to have eyes behind his back to even stand a chance against Young in their past matches.

Their best match to date, in my opinion, was at the War of the Worlds PPV. The beginning, middle and end all came together to create a no good, sleazy, grimy, down and dirty heel in Silas Young, and an honorable, make no excuses, get back up and try again babyface in Jay Lethal.

The icing on the cake was the beating that Silas Young and. Beer City Bruiser gave to Jay Lethal after he took home the victory for the night.

There wasn’t one fan in attendance that wasn’t appalled by Silas’s actions and didn’t feel the urge to want get out of their seats, run to Lethal and offer help. Something snapped in Lethal after War of the Worlds and now his entire existence is centered around making Silas and his patsy pay for their actions.

This feud has so much fire to it, that there is no surprise, that the two will meet again, for Ring of Honor’s latest PPV, Death before Dishonor.

I certainly can’t wait to see this and I hope that other fans of the promotion are rooting for this program to continue between these two men. Rivalries like this don’t come along everyday.
