Top 5 WrestleMania 34 Matches That Matter (To Me)

Published

on

With WrestleMania on Sunday, there’s no shortage of matches happening. There are going to be highs and lows. People need time to go reload on snacks right? With that in mind, here’s my top 5 matches where you should say, “I’ll go after this match.”

There are in order from least excited to most excited.

5: How Rowdy is Ronda?

The build hasn’t been good. It’s a lot of the same back and forth. I believe, as most opinions I’ve heard, that HHH and Angle will really anchor this match and Ronda will do a couple of spots and win the match. I don’t expect this to be a masterclass in wrestling. Those are later in the list.

I can’t ignore that I’m curious what Ronda will do in the ring. Every physical thing I’ve seen her execute has looked absolutely vicious. If she can move that fast and also be safe, she could really be worth watching past the name value.

4: The A-List IC Title Club

The Miz. Finn Balor. Seth Rollins. For the first time in a LONG time, the Intercontinental Title is being contested for in a match by three of the best WWE has to offer. Seth And Finn, while they’ve faced off time and time again lately, prove that they can always deliver a good to great match. Add in the Miz who will have new dad motivation and has been Mr. Consistent for a long time, this match could steal the show. Well…if not for the rest of this list.

3: Woooooo’s ready?

Asuka vs Charlotte has been a match talked about since Asuka started her run as NXT Women’s Champion. The undefeated streak (let’s just ignore that battle royal she lost in NXT to Eva Maria) is genuinely in jeopardy here. Charlotte is the most worthy opponent to Asuka and is the only one I think any of us would believe could win this match.

Do I believe Charlotte will win? No. I think Asuka wins and moves over to Smackdown. One idea I heard on a podcast (sorry, I don’t remember which one) is Asuka wins, Carmella cashes in and beats an exhausted Asuka, breaking the streak and instantly making Carmella the most hated person in WWE. I doubt WWE would do that but that’s a twist that’s out there.

2: Fight for your…

This match has the most story build to it of anything happening I think. I don’t know what it is about Daniel Bryan and storylines that start at Summerslam and end at Wrestlemania in New Orleans but here we are. It started slightly before but I feel comfortable saying that the Shane McMahon vs Kevin Owens feud really ignited at Summerslam.

Kevin beat up Vince. Sami saved Kevin from the Shane “jump from something very high” spot. Daniel Bryan and Shane have the passive/aggressive back and forth posturing but what was the payoff? Daniel Bryan couldn’t wrestle and did we really want to see Shane + (insert wrestler here) vs Kevin and Sami? Not really. Then, something magical happened.

Daniel Bryan got medically cleared.

The Yes movement is back, complete with kick pads.

In another article, I cover what I think should happen in this match. No matter what they do, there’s months and months of build to this match and I want to see how this plays out.

1: Dream Match

Admit it, you knew this was coming. AJ Styles vs. Shinsuke Nakamura for the WWE title is THE match to watch. This, this will be a masterclass in professional wrestling.

Let me make something clear: I do not follow other promotions. The names AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura were just names I heard rumored over and over again about coming to WWE and heard the history but had no connection beyond that.

I watched AJ Styles put on classic after classic on the main roster. I was sold. He’s one of the best in the ring in the entire world.

I watched Shinsuke Nakamura vs Sami Zayn in his debut match and Sami’s last match in NXT and it was incredible. The style, emotion, everything in that match was just perfect. I also got to see him live with DIY against then NXT Champion Bobby Roode and the Authors of Pain and he was just as good live. I was sold again.

These two together will absolutely kill it. Two of the best in the world competing at Wrestlemania for the WWE Championship. I don’t remember the last time the title match was the match I was most interested in. Bearing any major surprises, this match won’t just steal the show. It will BE the show.

Alex Mihailoff is a WWE fan who loves a good storyline and overanalyzing the WWE. He doesn’t know everything but will readily give his opinion on anything.
