WWE Mixed Match Challenge WK 4 Report: Team Rose Gold vs. Naomi & Jimmy Uso

Round one of WWE’s Mixed Match Challenge continues with a match up between RAW’s Goldust and Mandy Rose and SmackDown Live’s Naomi and Jimmy Uso. Jimmy and Naomi are wrestling for The Boys & Girls Club of America while Team Rose Gold is wrestling for Hire Heroes. Both are fantastic nonprofit organizations.

Jimmy Uso, one half of your current SD Live Tag Team Champions, is out first followed by is real life wife, former 2-time SmackDown Women’s Champ Naomi. Mandy Rose is out next followed by Goldust. Mandy is replacing the injured Alicia Fox who is currently nursing a tailbone injury. It’s immediately made clear that this is one of the better pairings on the show. SmackDown Live GM Daniel Bryan will be overseeing the contest as the referee in charge.

We kick things off with a little dancing between Goldust, Bryan and Jimmy and some smack talking between Mandy and Jimmy. Goldust gets extremely winded after running the ropes and Jimmy gives him an opportunity to cool off. It’s clear that Goldust is just getting into his opponent’s head, something he’s made a career out of.

Check out this following sequence: Goldust crawls over to Mandy and kisses her hand. Jimmy kisses Naomi’s. Goldust then offers Mandy a hug. Jimmy and Naomi follow that up with a hug of their own. Jimmy one ups him by kissing his wife on the mouth. Before Goldust prepares to make his move on Mandy, Jimmy checks Goldust’s breath. He approves. The crowd urges them on with some Yes! chants and Goldust goes in for the kiss, Jimmy interrupts with a roll up but Bryan refuses to count. Jimmy tags in Naomi. This is the kind of tomfoolery you’re going to get every week on Mixed Match Challenge.

Mandy works her offense for a bit before taking her eye off Naomi and slapping Jimmy. This gives Naomi some time to recover and we get a double clothesline that puts both girls down for a moment. Naomi recovers and we get the hot tag; Jimmy runs wild. After some high-powered offense, things start to break down as they always do around this part of the match. Jimmy and Naomi show their natural chemistry here — Corey Graves even calls a ‘Marital Enzuiguri’ — before Goldust eventually gets Jimmy all to himself while the girls are on the outside. The Bizzare One hits a picture perfect CrossRhodes on Uso but Naomi is able to save her husband at the count of two.

The finishing sequence sees Naomi hit a Rearview on Goldust before Jimmy finishes him off with a frog splash. Naomi and Jimmy will be moving on to round two to take on Braun Strowman and Alexa Bliss.

Lana and Rusev come out after the match to inform everyone that they, not Jimmy and Naomi, are the best married couple in the tournament. Rusev goes on to say that they will not gonna hug and sing songs next week unless it’s “Lana is the best, Lana number one,” which is a lot catchier when you hear him do it. Don’t believe me? Check out the video below.

We then cut to a promo of Elias and Bayley. Elias claims that Rusev and Lana will learn to “Walk with Elias” next week in a segment that includes those new graphics WWE has been using on SmackDown Live. You know, the ones that look like they were made by a high school morning news show from the 90’s? Elias makes it clear that there will be no hugging. We go off air with a kiss between your week four victors.
